IN CLASS ASSIGNMENT
MOME 305 - Projection Mapping / Alternative Methods. The assignment behind this project was to create a short video based on the interpretation of a song we chose. We were told to experiment with alternative methods of lighting, shooting, editing, color, etc. Just make sure the visual graphic elements complement the music and message.
The first part of the assigment was to choose the music and edit if necessary. The sound I picked had to be edited because most of it was not very upbeat and musical. After listening to the song a few times, my first idea was to go to the park and have my friend, Nicole, pretent to be stalking people. That idea did not go so well when it came time to edit the video. When my professor heard the song his first reaction was social media and online stalking. I then thought of making the video look like traffic camera footage that is finding people. So I went out on street corners and bridges and took timelapse videos of traffic.
I them took the video clips and edit them together using Premiere Pro. Since they were basically still images from the timelapse, I was able to slow some parts down to 1 or 2 fps to get a more realistic traffic camera look. I was still able to use some of my original park footage for the scenes near the end when Nicole is holding her camera over the city. The final piece was nothing that I could of originally thought of during the first stage of the project, but I guess that means I did the project correctly. All the assets were designed and built in After Effects.
All the videos were shot on a GoPro Hero4 Sliver. For the street videos I needed to get my GoPro as high as possible. So I attached it to a selfie stick ontop of my tripod with both being extended as tall as possible.
For the highway stop I used my Joby Gorillapod to secure the GoPro to the fence on the bridge.
